Climate Targets: Industry is Called Upon

Environmental protection starts on a small scale, but industrial companies have a major lever to counter climate change. In order to fulfill this role, Leadec has once again sharpened its environmental goals.

This year’s Earth Overshoot Day is on July 29, 2021. In purely arithmetical terms, the world’s population will be living on credit from this moment on, having already used up all the natural resources that the planet can produce and regenerate within a year. To cover all our resource needs sustainably, we would currently need 1.6 planets. That is dramatic. As a service company, we naturally have an impact on the environment. The current Sustainability Report contains ambitious goals, which we have now sharpened again.

Energy consumption and vehicle fleet

Among other things, we will increase the share of electricity from renewables to 45% (2021) and 65% in 2025, based on our total global energy mix. At the same time, we will reduce our CO2 emissions by 15%. We are also continuing to work systematically on our vehicle fleet: In addition to a share of electric vehicles of over 25% by 2025, we are focusing on replacing half of our gasoline-powered forklifts with electrically powered forklifts on the basis of 2020. In Hungary, we have already succeeded in replacing the entire fleet. Here, only electric forklifts are used.

Clean yet gentle

Leadec’s services include the cleaning of machines, equipment and shop floors. In order to clean both absolutely perfect and yet gentle to the environment, we will reduce the consumption of chemicals that are not biodegradable by 50% by 2025 and by 75% by 2030 compared to 2018. At the same time, we also aim to reduce the amount of hazardous waste by 15% compared to 2018.

Act globally

We operate at more than 300 sites worldwide. This is our opportunity, because climate change is a global challenge that we can only meet as a whole. For this reason, we will have 75% of our sites certified to ISO 14001 (environmental management system) or equivalent by 2030.
