Yu's journey: from intern to maintenance supervisor

Yu, you started as a production equipment maintenance intern at Leadec in Shanghai in 2007. How have the past few years been for you?
Until December 2011, I worked as a mechanic, maintaining and servicing production equipment while at the same time studying and then I worked as an engineer. My tasks became correspondingly more varied: I was responsible for troubleshooting, monitoring the equipment maintenance plans, implementing standard operating procedures and training the technical specialists in them. In December 2021, I was finally promoted to maintenance supervisor. In this role, I am now responsible for communicating with the customer, overseeing the modification and modernization of plant and equipment, and managing a team of 52 employees.
That’s an impressive development. What spurred you on? And were there any obstacles?
I have always been able to rely on Leadec. And above all, I have always been able to rely on my manager’s trust and my colleagues’ support. And I have wanted to be a reliable colleague and employee and always perform very well. Of course, there were also challenges that seemed daunting at first glance. But looking back, I learned a lot by overcoming them. I would say that my journey was smooth because I work in a stable working environment, have a positive attitude, and am very committed to my job.
What advice would you give to young professionals starting their career at Leadec?
Set both short-term and long-term goals and start with the short-term ones! Knowledge and development have no limits, so don’t stay in your comfort zone.
