Jesse's journey: from technical cleaner to service line manager

You always meet twice: Jesse started out as a technical cleaner 15 years ago, back then at Premier in the USA. He took a different path for a while and returned to Leadec in 2021. His advice: keep an open mind at all times.

Jesse, you are a great example of how the saying “You always meet twice” is very true. Tell us about it ...

Absolutely. When I started in 2009 as a technical cleaner in paint shop in Detroit, I was still working for Premier and later for Voith as a final assembly supervisor. After four years, I decided to pursue other opportunities outside of Leadec. But I returned in 2021! First, I worked as a technical cleaning specialist and after a few months I became line manager. I then moved to another plant and took on the position of maintenance manager for a new customer. And today, I’m service line manager in Wayne.

How would you describe your development at Leadec? What motivated you, what was challenging?

There are realistic opportunities here for those who want to grow. But you also have to be patient from time to time. For example, I was unsuccessful in some internal applications, but I didn’t let that discourage me. Instead, I focused on improving my skills and waited for the next opportunity. My shop floor experience and my ability to recognize customer needs were a decisive advantage on my way.

Who or what has supported you along the way?

My line manager Tom played a big part in my success right from the start. He supported me on my way from worker to team leader. I learned a lot from him, for example how to deal with customers and our trade union partners. Adam also supported me a lot. He gave me the opportunity to work as a supervisor for a new customer in a completely different area. He encouraged me to experiment with new processes and to speak my mind confidently. It was also Adam who gave me a lot of scope to develop as a manager.

What recommendations can you give young professionals for their career at Leadec?

My only advice is to keep an open mind at all times. My journey has shown me that Leadec needs people with all kinds of skills and talents. It’s only a matter of time before you discover the right opportunity for you. Leadec is constantly opening up new areas of business, and there will be an opportunity for you too!
