Marissa’s journey: from technical cleaner to service line manager

Marissa has been part of the Canadian Leadec team in Oakville since 2015. She started as a technical cleaner in the final department. Since January 2023, she has been responsible for technical cleaning at the site as service line manager. Three things in particular have helped her along the way: setting priorities, careful planning and a willingness to learn.

Marissa, your path to your current position was not entirely free of obstacles. In what way?

I started as a technical cleaner in 2015 but only for a short time, because unfortunately I was quickly affected by a deterioration in the order situation and my contract was terminated. I then found a job in another company’s manufacturing plant and one day in 2017 I heard about a vacancy at Leadec for the position of supervisor for technical cleaning, again in the body shop. That’s when I took the plunge and returned! I was then responsible for all technical cleaning processes as a shift supervisor in the body shop and final department for five years before taking over as service line manager in 2023.

How would you describe your own development? What motivated you?

I firmly believe that resilience, a positive attitude, and openness to new things are the most important prerequisites for success. That’s why I’ve always looked for opportunities to develop myself over the past 10 years or so. It’s not easy when you have to manage several responsibilities and tasks at your site at the same time. What helped me was to plan all tasks carefully, set priorities, and consciously make time for learning. My environment also motivated me: my team encouraged and supported me in everything. It turned out that together we created a working environment based on collaboration and active exchange of experiences.

And last but not least, I want to be a living example that nothing is impossible if you work hard and keep developing. I am Filipino and it is important to me to encourage my colleagues with similar backgrounds.

What recommendations can you give young professionals at Leadec when it comes to their “journey” at Leadec?

Don’t be afraid to explore different paths and seize opportunities that come your way. Embrace the unknown, as this often holds the potential for tremendous personal and professional growth. And embrace the challenges, celebrate the successes, and take everything you learn with you, as this will all help to make your journey unforgettable.
